Viva La Naturale!

Natural hair is not only a huge trend right now, it is a lifestyle. Many Black women are trading in their relaxed tresses for the natural styling regimen; and with this new regimen comes a love for natural hair products, foods and healthier living in general. In the fashion world, natural hair has always been accepted. Curly natural hair and very close cuts have always been the most popular among advertisements, magazines and runways. Now, “wooly” hair styles and uneven afros are making their way to the spotlight. Perhaps it has become easier to accept our unique, high maintenance tresses because of the support coming from the fashion industry.

For ladies that have already transitioned to the natural world, the struggle of maintaining your curls is a well known story. For new comers, the feeling of liberation is still new, and the maintenance may be easy. For those who are still chemically treating their hair, the thought of “going natural” may be just that. Hopefully, your mind will change. In one perspective, wearing your natural hair is a way of showing pride for your heritage and background. For some, it may be fashion statement. Others may wear their natural hair as a way of rebelling against the norm. No matter what your motive is, wear your hair proudly. As a woman of color, we often find it easier to conform and do what’s easy; that’s definitely not the way to go. If you need a boost or some inspiration, simply flip through any high fashion mag. You are bound to find a cute new hairstyle and some fashion tips to go along with it! Viva la naturale!
