Every girl wants to know the secret to popping eyes, and for some the secret isn’t one. It’s rainy out here, and feeling kind of experimental, so I created a simple, but dramatic, look to help spice up a boring face.
First, I primed my eyes and applied the highlighter. Since I wanted a serious highlighting effect, I used a bronzer to ensure a neutral pop. Then, I packed the darker color onto the lid using a shadow brush. The trick to getting a great smoky, or dramatic, eye is to blend the darker color 3/4ths of the way up the eye. Remember, the look is dramatic, not post-beatdown. After that, I blended the two and applied a little more black shadow to the crease, just to contour a bit more. Next, just soften out the edges of the black shadow to put the lid together. TIP: Make sure the shadow is darkest at the lashline and gets lighter on the way up to the crease. Use your blending brush and make windshield-wiping motions.
All you have to do now is apply black liner to the lower lashline, a volumizing mascara, and of course there’s the option of using falsies (which I did). Blush looks great with a dramatic eye, but sometimes you’ve got to make sure the colors truly complement each other and your skin. Some makeup artists think that blush is too much and the eyes alone are dramatic enough. You can try a light illuminator to highlight the face and use a nude gloss to keep the focus on the eyes.
Here’s the finished product:
I think one of the best affordable products for this look is Loreal Infinite Studio Secrets Eyeshadow Quads in Smokey Eyes. It’s inexpensive, and is easy to apply.

Price: $7.19
Brand: L’Oreal
For the illuminator, I used Avon’s Magix Illuminating stick.
Try it out and enjoy!
